My diverse employment history has bestowed upon me an array of skills that I believe have prepared me to face many challenges in the IT field.
My recent positions at the New York Hall of Science have granted me much opportunity to augment my experience and skills that would be very applicable to providing solutions to home/SOHO technology challenges.
Working as a senior science instructor, I obtained extensive opportunities to conduct professional and staff development programs for teachers often involving pedagogy, content as well as the myriad uses of many forms of educational technology; such as computers, probeware, digital imaging, microscopy,as well as video editing. Working as the Supervisor of distance learning I was responsible for establishing the technology and curriculum to facilitate interactive video conferencing. One of my responsibilities was Help Desk/ Network support for the Education department. I contended with many issues such as, both wired and wireless connectivity issues, printer access issues, mail client troubleshooting and browser issue. Further I was responsible for backing up data, software and anti-virus updates, setting up new systems, hardware replacement and an assortment of other perpetually rising issues.
Working at Consulvation permitted me the opportunity to assist in providing networking solutions for small businesses. We designed, implemented, remotely monitored and troubleshoot networks to resolve issues such as legacy components, growth, and security; or to provide ecommerce solutions. Further my temp position as a Desktop support technician at the Computer Career Center involved the support of several hundred client systems as well as the Ghosting of hard drives whenever needed.
My prior position as tech support specialist at Spectrumdsl had provided me many opportunities to learn. I provided in house tech support in a Windows 98, NT, 2000 networked as well as mobile environments. Such support often encompassed troubleshooting issues associated with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and PowerPoint), network connectivity, laptop support, and printer installation; as well as the update, repair, and configuring of in house computers. It was there where I learned the most about internet connectivity as I supported all Spectrumdsl product lines such as dial, ISDN, DSL, and T1s. I provided helpdesk tech support for our Dsl and dial up clients. I aided customers integrate Dsl service into their networks, which often entailed telneting into routers to configure them and guiding end users in the configuration of their LANs either remotely or on site. I assisted clients with integrating their exchange servers and webservers, as well as aid them with common internet applications such as web browser and mail clients. My prior position as a teacher had granted me the opportunity to teach science to many young adults in a formal setting. I was responsible for the science education of approximately 120 students. I also maintained and troubleshooted a computer node in the back of my classroom and I often troubleshooted and maintained the classroom nodes for my colleagues. My educational pursuits have permitted me to obtain a BS in Biology, a Masters in Science Education, a NYC Teacher License , A+, Networking+, I-Net+ and MCP certifications. I am currently pursuing Server+ and Security+ certifications, and should be obtaining my NC teacher license very soon.
